SPOT SAYS! A Review of The Very Hungry Caterpillar & Other Eric Carle Favorites

A Very Hungry Caterpillar, a Mixed-Up Chameleon and a Little Cloud, three visually captivating stories put on by The Mermaid Theatre of Nova Scotia under The Rose Theater’s beautiful proscenium. These timeless stories, written and illustrated by Eric Carle, bring larger-than-life puppetry and blacklight technology to the stage, all with a relaxing musical melody in the background. I have seen clouds, caterpillars and chameleons while out on walks, but never like this. It is a must see show and I give it five barks and two paws up!

With each of Eric Carle’s stories comes whimsical movement and beautiful narration, which carries through each of the three stories. The performers (Ben Leger and Andrew Young) are dressed in black, handling the puppets and following the narrators soft voice, leaving the audience of young people with a sense of wonder and excitement. The Very Hungry Caterpillar makes his big appearance in the third act, and a roar of cheers make their way throughout the theater!

With such iconic stories, you really can’t go wrong bringing the whole family to this 45 minute visual masterpiece. That is coming from Omaha’s top dog in theatrical reviews! I recommend this show for all ages, and hope that you write me a letter telling me what you thought of the show!! I would love to write you a letter bark — I mean, BACK!

This show is directed by Jim Morrow, who is also The Mermaid Theatre’s Artistic Director! The Rose is the first stop on their NATIONAL tour!! Be the first to see and and call The Box Office at 402-345-4849 or visit the-rose.local to get your tickets today!

As always, thanks for reading my review and have a dog-gone good day!

Until next time,
SPOT
