Welcome to Teens 'N' Theater!

The spotlight at The Rose is open to young people of all ages, including teens. Teens programming at The Rose explores a wide range of theatrical interests, including acting, directing, playwriting, costume design, lighting design and much more.

teen2Teens ‘N’ Theater provides teens ages 13 to 18 opportunities to roll up their sleeves and get active in the world of theater. The Rose produces several teens-only shows each season, where teen participants are given opportunities to act, direct, write, design and stage manage. Students perform fresh, thought-provoking work at The Rose’s Hitchcock Theater. Teens ‘N’ Theater is open to high school students who have not yet graduated. There is no cost to participate, and the program is open to all interested students. Please note: the audition information for each show (and our main stage opportunities) is listed further down on this page under “Teen Auditions.”

The Rose Theater’s innovative Teens ‘N’ Theater program provides teens ages 13 to 18 opportunities to get active in the world of theater. The Rose produces five teens-only shows each season, where teen participants act, direct, write, design and stage manage. Students perform fresh, thought-provoking work at The Rose’s Hitchcock Theater.

Teens ‘N’ Theater opening nights feature post-show discussions led by teens, including “news you can use” to learn more about topics from each show and engage in community action.

Teen IDEA Coalition

Theater of the Oppressed. Using Brazilian theatre techniques, the group makes short, interactive scenes of “Forum Theater,” where problems are dramatized, stopped, and reframed — as rehearsal for reality. The group presents at Opening Night of Teens ’n’ Theater shows to inspire audiences to take immediate action in moments of injustice.

Meetings are every other Saturday. Email Jay at jayh@rosetheater.org if you’re interested in joining. Floating attendance is valid, encouraged and understood.

Teen Classes

The Rose provides a wide range of classes for teens. Whether you are interested in acting, playwriting, dance or voice, we have a class for you! Beginners or those with a bit more experience will find their place in the spotlight at The Rose. For information, please visit our class search engine.

Teen Volunteer Team

The Rose’s Teen Volunteer Team helps run the light boards, paint scenery, prepare props and more. Volunteers earn volunteer credit toward free tickets, classes and more. This program gives teens an opportunity to increase their theatrical experience in a professional context, while building relationships with teens who share their interests. To sign up for the Teen Volunteer Team, email teenvolunteers@rosetheater.org.

Teen Internship

The Rose offers a Teen Internship to high school juniors who plan to study theater in college. Teen interns work a minimum of 150 hours from June to May, gaining valuable hands-on experience as they contribute to a variety of artistic, educational and administrative projects.

To apply for the Teen Internship in the 2022-2023 school year, send a letter of interest and resume to Jay Hayden at jayh@rosetheater.org no later than April 1, 2023.
