Whether at your school or at our theater, a workshop through The Rose is the perfect way for students to explore themes from a school field trip show or learn about the professions within the theater. One of our professional teaching artist with a college degree in dramatic arts education will lead your class through an engaging theater curriculum.

Workshops at The Rose

A workshop at The Rose is the perfect way to explore themes from a school field trip show or learn about the profession of theater. A professional teaching artist with a college degree in dramatic arts education will lead your class. The individual workshop topics are dependent on that day’s assigned actor/educators, but requests for specific workshop topics may be made when the workshop is scheduled.

*There is a 20 student minimum, or a flat fee of $110 will be charged. A cancellation fee of 50% of the total fee will be applied if cancelled within 30 days of the scheduled date. Workshop times vary depending on your show time. All options include a 30-minute lunch break.

Available Workshops

Intro to Acting Workshop (K – 6th Grade)

This hands-on workshop teaches students the basic tools of acting: body, voice and imagination. Students will also learn about the job of acting and will explore the mainstage, rehearsal hall and dressing room.

TIME: 9:30-11 am or 1-2:30 pm

COST: $6.00/Child (Minimum $120)

Combination Show + Acting Workshop (K – 8th Grade)

See a show at The Rose and then explore the characters, plot and themes from the show your students attended through an interactive workshop. Students will also tour the sets and view the costume and make-up designs from the show.

Full-Day Introduction to Theater Workshop (2nd – 5th Grade)

This full-day introduction to theater workshop teaches students about all the artistic elements used to create a play. Students will learn the importance of imagination when acting, directing, playwriting and designing. They will also receive a behind-the-scenes tour of the costume shop, sound board, fly rail and catwalk before using their own imaginations to turn a short story into a play. Students will create their own design project, rehearse their play and then present it to an audience of their peers.

TIME: 9:30 am-2 pm

COST: $9.00/CHILD (Minimum $180)



Full-Day Advanced Theater Workshop (5th – 12th Grade)

This full-day advanced theater workshop provides students an opportunity to explore three different theater topics such as improvisation, acting, playwriting, design, ensemble work, stage combat, musical theater, choreography, etc. The workshop also includes a tour of The Rose Theater and a look back stage focusing on design.

TIME: 9:30 am-2 pm

COST: $9.00/CHILD (Minimum $180)



Workshops at Your School

The Rose offers several workshops that can take place at your school. A Rose professional teaching artist will visit your school to explore a curriculum topic of your choice. In-school workshops can be scheduled for three to five days within a week.

Please reach out to our team to discuss curriculum topics, scheduling requirements, school discounts and bundled rates when you call. All prices are quoted for locations within the Omaha metro area. The Rose is available to do residencies outside the Omaha area and prices are negotiable. A mileage fee of $50 per driving hour to schools will be applied to schools further than 60 miles from the theater. Before reserving, please ensure you have space available in your classroom or a common area to allow room for the interactive drama activities included in these workshops.

Lil’ Rosies: Musical Theater Program for Young Artists (Toddlers – 2nd Grade)

Lil’ Rosies uses developmental milestones to guide students through musical theater warm-ups and character exploration activities that grow imaginative and empathetic young storytellers. Various topics can include curriculum based topics, holidays, seasons and classic characters. For a more detailed list of topics, visit our Early Education page.

Creative Movement (Pre-K – 2nd Grade)

Students explore choreography and movement for one of the following stories:

  • Rainbow Fish
  • Snowy Day
  • The Little Engine That Could

Reader’s Theater: How Anansi and Aso Brought Stories to the World (1st – 3rd Grade)

Stage a short play in just two days while using theater to improve reading and speaking skills. We will have fun telling the story of “How Anansi and Aso Brought Stories to the World” through acting, all while deepening understanding and building more expressive reading and confident speaking.

THEMES: Communication, Social Awareness, Emotion Management, Self- Awareness and Responsible Decision Making

STATE STANDARDS FOR: Fluency – Students will develop accuracy, phrasing and expression while reading a variety of grade-level print/digital text to support comprehension.

COST: $100/Teacher (per in-class hour)

American Revolution (4th – 6th Grade)

This three-day residency uses drama skills such as statue work, pantomime and characterization to explore particular moments in history that relate to students’ current studies such as the American Revolution, Lewis and Clark, Civil War, etc.

Women in Science (5th – 6th Grade)

Students will receive a new one-day residency about famous women in science with a Rose Teaching Artist in their classrooms.

COST: $100/Teacher (per in-class hour)

Egyptian History (5th – 6th Grade)

Students will practice their public speaking skills through a dramatic presentation that shares facts about important people, events and inventions from ancient civilizations with a Rose Teaching Artist in your classroom.
