Come tuck yourself in at The Rose Theater for the season opener, Goodnight Moon, based on the classic children’s story! I loved kicking my paws up in the comfortable chairs available in the theater. There were moments of paw-ndemonium along with moments of pure lullaby. Bunny (Nick Knipe) could not get to sleep and found any excuse he could to stay awake, he also made me bark a few times! He really looked like a bunny! The Old Lady (Wendy Eaton) tried relentlessly to put him to bed, and with that came a lot of singing and even more commotion! The cast was rounded out by Jessica Burrill-Logue (Mouse/Dog/Baby Bear) along with Kimberlee Stone and Matthew Pyle (Puppeteers/Cow) and Ty Hebbert (Tooth Fairy/Cat/Papa Bear.)
I howled at the rambunctious renditions of “You’ll Never Get Away” and “Hey, Diddle Diddle” while songs like “Tooth Fairy” left me in a paw-ceful state of mind. The com-paw-sition of all the songs was amazing and had me wagging my tail to the melody! I am also very paw-ssionate about my sleep schedule and I know what it feels like to be wide awake when it is bedtime!
When it is finally time for Bunny to say goodnight, a beautiful moon drops in and we can really soak in the mesmerising set that The Rose production staff crafted. Some dogs would give it a ca-nine out of ten, but I would give this show a TEN out of ten!
The costumes, designed by Sherri Geerdes, were “Spot” on… I really thought the actors were animals! Lucky for me there was another dog reviewing the show who made it clear that they were humans dressed as animals, phwew!
Overall I loved this show, which is recommended for humans ages 5+. If you are looking for a great family outing, look no further, this show has it all. Music, singing, dancing, humor and paw-ndemonium all together makes Goodnight Moon one that you do not want to miss! It runs on The Rose mainstage from September 2-18, call 402-345-4849 or visit the-rose.local for tickets!
Woof!
Until next time,
