Workshops
Bring your class to The Rose for a drama workshop designed to bring out imagination and creativity! Our trained staff provide fun, quality instruction with curriculum tie-ins during whole-day or half-day workshops. Contact James Larson at 502-4618 for more information. HALF DAY ACTING WORKSHOP This hands on workshop will teach students the basic tools of acting : the body, the voice and the imagination. The students will also learn about the job of acting and will explore the mainstage, the rehearsal hall and our wonderful costumes. Suggested ages K-3rd grade. Half day workshop hours are from 9:30 - 11 am or 1:00 - 2:30 pm. CONTACT: James Larson, Artistic Director, at 502-4618. POST SHOW ACTING WORKSHOP This hands on workshop will actively explore the characters, plot, and themes. Students also get a tour of the set, costumes, and make-up designs from the show. Suggested ages K-6th grade. Post Show workshop hours are from 11:30-1:00 (after a half hour lunch break). CONTACT: James Larson, Artistic Director, at 502-4618. FULL DAY THEATER WORKSHOP This full-day introduction to theater workshop teaches all the artistic elements that come together to create a play. Students experience how important imagination is for acting, directing, playwriting and designing. They get a behind the scenes tour of the costume shop, sound board, fly rails and even the catwalk. Students will then use their own imagination to turn a story into a short play. Students will create their own design project, rehearse a play, and share their performance with the other classes. Suggested ages 2nd-5th grades. The workshop is from 9:30am - 2:00pm Note: Students should bring a sack lunch and beverage. Specific requests for multicultural programs (such as African tales, Asian stories, etc) may be discussed when the workshop is scheduled. CONTACT: James Larson, Artistic Director, at 502-4618. FULL DAY ADVANCED THEATER WORKSHOP A full-day advanced theater workshop lets students explore 3 different theater topics (such as improvisation, acting, playwriting, design, ensemble work, stage combat, musical theater choreography, and many more! The workshop also includes a tour of the building and a question and answer period with one of our theater designers. Suggested ages: 5th through 12th grades. The workshop runs from 9:30am - 2:00pm. Note: Students should bring a sack lunch and beverage. The individual workshop topics are dependent on that day’s assigned teachers, but requests for specific workshop curriculum may be made when the workshop is scheduled.
